How to Silence Your Inner Critic

Ready for a reframe that will totally change your ability to get through roadblocks?

Your mindset and your thoughts are NOT the same thing.

Once you realize this — and I mean really FEEL it in your gut — it can make it a lot easier to rise to the challenge of your goals (and maybe even add a fun factor).

Because while you don’t have a lot of control over your thoughts, you DO have control over your mindset, which means you can harness it to help you.

Here’s what we mean:

Your thoughts are like random “blips” that run through your mind. Thoughts sound like, Do I have to stop for gas on my way to work tomorrow? It’s hot in here. We’re out of eggs. Is there water in the dog bowl? Wow, look at how blue the sky is today!

Your mindset is an attitude, a frame of mind, a belief. This sounds more like, I can do challenging tasks, and if I don’t have all the skills I need, I’ll learn them.

As you might imagine, your mindset influences your thoughts. If it’s positive, you probably have more positive thoughts.

And — even better — when you have a growth mindset, you believe that skills and abilities are something you can learn and get better at over time.

Here are 3 things you can do to help develop a growth mindset:

Try something new or hard and practice it for a few weeks.

Don’t look at the things you did “wrong” — focus on the new skills learned and your improvements over time. Be patient with yourself, just like you’d be with a child learning a new skill.

Get support.

There’s nothing like a pep talk (or a friendly drill sergeant!) to motivate you to keep trying. Struggling to learn a new skill? Hiring a coach can be a big help!

Become a detective.

When things don’t go well (it happens to everyone!), instead of beating yourself up for it, investigate what happened: detach your emotions, figure out why, come up with another approach or solution, and try, try, again!

Need some help here? Reaching out to one of your coaches is a GREAT option to help develop a growth mindset.

Often we are too close to our situation to see the big picture. Your coach can help you step back and pinpoint the best actions that work with your goals, your lifestyle, your current bandwidth, and your schedule.

Make it an amazing day!

Workouts for 55+

Does this sound like you?

You’ve tried working out in a large boot camp…but all the jumping and bouncing around isn't very fun on your joints.

You’ve tried things like pilates and yoga…but you know you need more strength work and some type of age-appropriate cardio/conditioning to help your cardiovascular system.

At BCS Fitness, we LOVE getting to work with folks 55+! We understand that no two clients are the same and the needs a client who is 25 is very different than someone who is 55+! This is exactly why we do not offer large-group fitness solutions.

What to grab an easy win? Sign up for a “28-Day Fitness Jump Start” to get the ball rolling. You start by meeting with a seasoned certified personal trainer 1 on 1 and then will move into a customized personal training program for the remainder of your four-week journey!

Advise to College Station Mom in her 40s

Maybe you can relate to this person...

A busy College Station mom in her 40s visited us last week to see if we might be a good fit where she is at in her health/fitness.

She has kids between the ages of 10 and 16 and her husband works out of town on a regular basis. The older kids are CRAZY busy with their afterschool activities and the younger ones still need a good amount of her attention.

She felt frustrated because she was always feeling run down and didn't have the physical or emotional energy to really be present for her kids.

She used to workout regularly when the kids were younger and loved how she felt and looked...but now their schedule demands have made it difficult to get back into the habit of working out. She'd tried apps and other drop-in class-based bootcamp, HIIT studios, and large groups...but they didn't provide the accountability and support she needed.

She was tired or feeling frustrated and rundown and decided to make a change!

SOLUTION (specific to her situation)

Given her hectic schedule, we made the personal recommendation to her to start off working with us in customized personal training 2 days per week doing strength training, mobility work, and smart conditioning. The hope would be to progress her to 3 days per week...but given her busy schedule, the most important thing is to get consistent and START.

She also talked with a nutrition coach this week to discuss losing a little extra body fat and is going to be making 2 small changes in her afternoon food routine that will pay big dividends in how she feels and looks!

We are excited about this unique solution for this busy mom...but what about YOU? What do you need right now to feel and look your best?

Reach out and let us start the conversation about what type of customized personal training program would fit you. Call/text us at 979-575-7871 to set up a simple 3-5 min discovery call to make sure we are a great fit for you!

Get Results, Not Injuries

Does this sound like you? You like to work hard, but your back/knees/etc also pay the price when you try to do the same workout you did back in college.

The problem is that the workout that was best for you at 25 is not the right workout for you at 35, 45, 55, etc. If you want to get results and stay in the game and not battle injury and inconsistency...you need a training plan that is more evolved than the one did years ago.

This recent quote from a client interview says it all...

"As I entered my 40's I discovered that all of the barbell work I was doing at my old box CrossFit was killing my back. I've really enjoyed how my coach at BCS Fitness works with me and helps me make progress in my mobility and strength without irritating my back like my old CF workouts did."

You can look, move, and feel better at any age and don't have to beat your body up to see positive change.

The right movements, the right intensity, the consistency, and a smart nutrition plan can do the trick. You DON'T have to go to extremes.

Need a little help getting started? Reach out to us...we're happy to help! Call or text us at 979-575-7871 to start the conversation.
